Steadfast Strings for String Orchestra

$40.00

Steadfast Strings is an original composition by Matt Westwood for Junior String Orchestra composed in 2024. Crafted in the style of an epic cinematic score, the piece opens and closes with a slow, somber atmosphere, while the central section transitions into a dynamic and heroic theme.

The limited pitch range in the Violin 2, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass sections make this piece perfect for a junior string orchestra. The Violin 2 part only uses 2nd and 3rd fingers on the D string, and the open A string; the viola and cello parts only use opens and 1st fingers; and the double bass part only uses the four bass notes: E, C, G, and D. The optional harmony in the Violin 1 part gives the opportunity for a more advanced violin player who can play in 3rd position to extend themselves, making the repeat sound much more thrilling.

Optional advanced viola and advanced cello parts are also available featuring the main melody from the violin 1 part, making this piece perfect for a large mixed group of both beginner and more advanced musicians. Two scores are available for the conductor: a simple score without the extra advanced viola and cello parts, and a complete score featuring these added parts.

Matt’s performance available on YouTube also features percussion for added excitement and intensity, including cajon, high-hat, and suspended cymbal. These percussion parts however are not included in the score or parts, and were instead improvised.

After purchase, a download link will be emailed to you to download a single PDF containing the scores and all parts. The download link will work for the following 24 hours. Please be sure to download the file in this time. If you have any difficulties, please email me. Your purchase grants your school or institution the license to print or photocopy as many copies as is required for musicians of your orchestra.
